An Investigation into Energy Efficiency of Data Centre Virtualisation
Summary: This paper presents a critical comparison of a virtualised data centre infrastructure and an infrastructure that consists of physical servers. Our investigation shows how virtualisation can better utilise the hardware and consequently reduces the power consumption and carbon emissions. The case study reports an extensive research phase to identify main reasons for data centre virtualisation Speaker: Maria Pretorius Maria recently graduated from the University of Greenwich with a first class honours degree in Computer Systems and Networking and is currently continuing with postgraduate studies at the same university. Maria’s final year project was awarded a distinction and was also nominated for the “Best project award”. Based on her project, Maria has published a paper titled “An investigation into energy efficiency of data centre virtualisation” which was accepted for presentation at 3PGCIC-2010. Pictures: |
